Kyoto Imperial Palace

Kyoto

The Kyoto Imperial Palace was the Edo-era emperors’ main home. Its numerous rooms and its celebrations hall, in which the Chrysanthemum Throne was, show Japanese ancient traditions within a 51-acres wide field including walkways, gardens and a second palace called Sento. Even though the imperial family lives in Tokyo since the Meiji Restoration, Emperor Taisho’s and Emperor Showa’s crowings still took place in this palace during the first half of the 20th century.
