Maruyama Park

The Maruyama Park is the most famous garden in Kyoto. Created in the 19th century during the Meiji era by Jihei Ogawa, this park includes a pond, a creek and over 680 cherry trees of which one famous white weeping cherry tree. This tree is a descendant of an old cherry tree, which lived nearly 200 years but died in 1947, and took its place as the garden’s centerpiece. Furthermore, the Maruyama Park is registered in Japan’s cultural heritage.
