Sapporo Clock Tower

Sapporo

Sapporo Clock Tower is the ancientest building in Sapporo. Symbol of the city, it shows signs from the period when Emperor Meiji wanted to develop and occupy more space on Hokkaido Island (Japanese people did not especially care for it at that moment, and Ainu people, a native people, lived in there). If this building is a legacy from the 19th century, its chime is legendary and never failed ringing, not a single hour since 1881.
