Togetsukyo
Spanning the Katsura river over 155 meters, the Togetsukyo Bridge is a historic and symbolic monument in Kyoto. Thus, this bridge was even represented in one of the famous painter and designer Hokusai Katsushika’s etchings. He was the author of the world-famous work of art “The Great Wave off Kanagawa”. Togetsukyo means “Bridge crossing the moon” in Japanese. It was called this way after the Emperor Kameyama saw, one night, the bridge overlapping the moon, as if it was going through it.
